Canada Cup 2013 is officially at an end but as this article is being written, the after-party and ensuing aftermath continues on. Although reigning Canada Cup Singles champion DM MCZ Xian was busy sweeping all three titles in Capcom Gulf Championship 2013 and could not defend his crown, two warriors from China stepped in to fill his size 9 shoes. QB Xiaohai and QB Dakou, the legendary King of Fighters duo, joined the fray to ensure that Canada Cup once again lived up to its reputation of most difficult international Super Street Fighter IV: Arcade Edition tournament outside of Evolution and Shadowloo Showdown.

Xiaohai would eventually take the singles SSFIVAE tournament despite a spectacular run by Bonchan. Both players were surrounded by their teammates as coaching and moral support played an integral part in the final result. At one point Infiltration was giving shoulder pats to his North East Asia teammate Xiaohai. The tournament was so stacked that many killers and household names could not make the podium finish.

Perhaps unsurprisingly, the ultra stacked Japanese team won the marquee team tournament for the 3rd time in a row. With MCZ Tokido vanquishing Infiltration in the final round, the team secured yet another victory without Kazunoko ever playing a single round (much the same way Fuudo never needed to appear in last year’s Canada Cup team tournament).

In Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3, Filipino Champ had a scintillating grand finals victory over the ever-dominant Chris G. Instead of bemoaning the bullet festival of Morrigan/Dr. Doom combination, F-Champ found a way to crack the riddle with equally adept zoning.

Here are the results and once again we thank Lap Chi for another legendary tournament and after party. Without such a pioneering force in the Canadian scene, it’s hard to imagine events on this scale with such a top tier cast of international guests is possible.
