After an exhilarating weekend in Vienna, Austria, Ninjas in Pyjamas (NiP) was crowned the champions of the Mad Catz Counter-Strike: Global Offensive Invitational! They fought off Nostalgie and ESC Gaming in the knock-out stage before meeting Danish side Anexis eSports in the grand final. NiP then went on to complete yet another event without losing a single map.
The biggest upset on Saturday saw Anexis beat the number two ranked VeryGames in the group stages and a day later managing to repeat this amazing feat in the semi-finals to earn the right to play the reigning champions. VeryGames completed the podium with a tight 2-1 win over ESC Gaming to take third place.
Anexis can hold their heads high as showing terrific promise, taking on the mighty power of NiP, they performed superbly well and it’s hoped they will continue to grow as the season progresses, no doubt meeting their (and everyone else’s) nemesis in the Copenhagen Games 27th to 31st March.
Notching up over a million live stream visits over the weekend fans weren’t disappointed with the weekend’s action, which included a thriller between VeryGames and former CS 1.6 champions Na`Vi in which six rounds of overtime were needed to separate them in the first map.
Congratulations to NiP, Anexis and VeryGames, and we hope you’ve all enjoyed watching the games just as much as we did!
